Dumbo is a classic Disney animated feature. The original animated version came out in 1941. Following the adventures of baby elephant Dumbo, it tells a comingofage story of breaking through prejudice.

Dumbo is born in a circus with a pair of extralarge ears. This difference makes him a frequent target of ridicule from other animals and audiences, earning him the nickname “Dumbo”. Owing to his unusual look, he gets ostracized wherever he goes. His mother is imprisoned for defending him, leaving Dumbo to face hardships all by himself. He is even forced to act as a clown to amuse and be laughed at by others. Lonely and helpless, Dumbo suffers from deepseated inferiority. Luckily, his loyal friend Timothy the Mouse keeps him company and gives him wise guidance. Little by little, Dumbo shakes off his inferiority complex. To his amazement, his huge ears work just like wings, lifting him high up into the sky. Thanks to this oneofakind ability, Dumbo stuns the audience, becomes a brilliant star of the circus, and is reunited with his mother in the end.
